Who is Paula?
The strong and uninterrupted oral tradition tells that, in 1818, Mrs. Paula Jaraquemada, a member of the family that owned the Santa Rita Estate at the time, provided refuge to 120 soldiers of the Chilean Patriot Army in her cellar after they lost the Battle of Cancha Rayada. Additionally, she supplied them with ammunition, horses, food, and cared for the wounded, thus contributing to revitalizing the independence process.
